Soft Authentication


When we use biometrics identification such as fingerprint authentication, we have to do some special actions for identification. However, to do this special actions many times might be a burden. So we are considering “soft identification” using unawared sensors. Soft identification is different from traditional hard identification even in the goal. The former is mainly for security but the latter is for giving personalized service in home environment or a small office environment.(Person tracking by ultra-red ceiling sensors: Human identification by pressure sensors attached on a chair, and so on)


User Tracking

If we can track a user who is already identified, we don’t have to identify the user again. For this task, the video camera based methods can be candidate, however, from the view of privacy, users might feel being watched and uncomfortable. In this laboratory, to get rid of those concerns, we are researching to track users by using a ultra-red ceiling sensors network on the ceiling to track users.

We are researching for user authentication from natural movements in life. We are using a set of pressure censors in the chair.

Health monitoring of a sitting person

Not limiting to elderly, even young people should be careful to their health in daily life. But, it is cumbersome to go a hospital for diagnosis. It is mored ideal to be made while spending thier ordinary life. There are some systems using some warerable sensors to measure the heart rate, but it is not confortable.

We are trying to measure the degree of fatigue of the person who is just sitting and desk working. We use a sheet that have many puressor senseors and measure how often and to what degree he/she moves form the sensor sheets. It may succeed to know the user’s fatigue from frequent sitting change or unmoving for a long time. [nakane_2011]

Fall Detection and Prevention

In elderly population, falls are a major cause of accidental injury. In Japan, there are about 5000 people died caused by fall in the same direction such as stumble, slip and stagger.

Many researcher have been studied fall detection using wearable devices and cameras. However, elderly peole don’t like to be watched by camera because of intrusion of privacy, and wearing these device are a burden to them. To dectect fall is important, but it is too late after falling.Therefore, we focus on stumble and try to precention of fall. About 40 % of these falls occur from stumble.

In order to put it into practice,we try to detect the places where they possible falls and to locate the place. In stumble detection, We implant an accelerometer into the sole and observe the angle of a shoe to the floor. To locate the places,we use a ceilng infrared sensor newwork to lodate the places whre stumble happened.

We want to realize fall prevention put on the pravacy of residens and lighten the burden imposed on elder people.

眠気要因の発見

Measurement group sleepiness

Do you feel deep sleepiness on the daytime? For example, during the lecture or work. You get terribule if exames or deadlines are nearing. Why we feel sleepiness? fatigue, sleep deprivation or warmed room or boring lecture? You can break away from these sleepiness, if there is someone who tell you the reason of sleepiness. Our reserch is to measurement of group sleepiness aim at lectureing students. If we can measurement group sleepiness, it’s reach to determine what lead to sleep. This reserch will be expect to apply for not only alart system but also construct of not sleepy lecture or environment.
